National Sites Quarter Release Schedule

In general, the National Sites Quarters will be released at a rate of five coins per year, approximately every 10 weeks. This release schedule will give the series an 11 year duration, assuming six coins are released in the final year.

The order of release for individual coins in the series will be determined based on the National Parks and National Sites that each coin portrays. Under the authorizing legislation, coins are to be issued in the order which the sites were first established as a national site. Because of this stipulation, all sites to be featured on the quarters must be known at the outset.

The Secretary of the Treasury actually has a 270-day period following the enactment of the law to select the sites which will appear on the quarters. Based on the date the Act was signed into law, this gives him until about September 19, 2009. After this date, it is expected that the US Mint will formally announce the sites, along with the full release schedule for the series.

Specific release dates for each quarter likely won’t be known until shortly before the year of issuance. This page will post the release schedule and release dates for the National Sites Quarter series once it has become available.
